From: Patricia
Subject: Credit Cards for Air Miles

I just don't get how to do this. I'm not a huge consumer and it seems I would have to use my credit card for really big purchases over a very long time in order to get enough miles for a trip abroad. My understanding is that I would get one mile credit per one dollar spent. Is there an easier, faster way?

Patricia,

Many cards offer bonus sign up and incentives where you can earn double or even triple miles. Currently, American Express has a card affiliated with Delta Airlines whereby you can get up to 20,000 miles sign up bonus, and then double miles on all of your purchases. Likewise, the Diner Club card offers a pretty good deal on usage points that can be used on any airline. My best suggestion is to shop around for a low international fare, currently you can find fares as lows as $300 from the East Coast to Paris. Then use your newly earned miles for an upgrade, so that you will enjoy your trip even more.

All the best,
Joel
