From: Robert
Subject: Flexibility in Using Air Miles

I have Visa cards that award miles for American and United Airlines, but would prefer to have a credit card that allows me to allocate the miles to whatever airline I need to book flights on. I believe Master Card and American Express have such programs. Which is better? Are there others I should consider?

Dear Robert,

Your are right, American Express does offer its Membership Reward program, however, you will be charged $40 for enrollment in this program (that's in addition to your annual card fee). Currently I use the Diners Club card that offers a point program without an annual fee. I usually do not like to make a flat out recommendation, however; in this case I will say that the service I've received from Diners Club is superb. Moreover, for first year you earn 12,000 bonus points and double points on all of your purchases. The points accumulate very quickly and these points can be used at a number of airlines, hotels, cruises, or even for merchandise.

All the best,
Joel
