We are wanting to travel to Puerto Vallarta for Christmas next year (2001). I have started trying to locate a reasonable air fare for a family of 4. We could fly out of Wichita, KS; Oklahoma City, OK; Amarillo, TX or Colorado Springs, CO. I am having trouble getting info on Mexicana and fares. Could you recommend other airlines that have good prices? Thanks. I just found out about your column and have already bookmarked it.

You have time on your side and that's a good advantage. However, once you make the reservation try to get your ticket deadline extended as far out as possible, (close to your actual date of travel). This will give you flexibility in case your plans change, and you'll be able to hold on to your money longer. I might suggest that you consider Alaska Air, Delta, United, or Aero-Mexico for this trip. They all have direct flights to Puerto Vallarta. Thank you for the nice words on the column.
