Date: July 18, 2000 From: Ira Iboren To: Penny Pincher Subject: Coupons Hi, Just bought and read your book. Well done! We had already booked and charged a package to the Orchid on Delta. Two ocean-view rooms, family of four, coach. Car included. No golf greens included and we all play and would like 2 or 3 rounds. They have no club level. The deal was bought from our travel agent who contacted a consolidator of sorts, so I don't think that anything is full fair. We have some miles stored, but were told that there were no upgrades available for this flight. I have nearly four weeks before departure. What do you think the best way to get upgraded in general would be?
Thanks,
Ira, The first step is to get the airlines to put you on the waiting list for the1st class cabin upgrade. Remember to call back frequently to check if the status has cleared. With respect to the golf, call the Orchid and speak with the general manager's office and ask if they can arrange any special incentives for your golf outings (i.e., any price breaks, preferred tee times, two-for-one specials, etc.) I have had the opportunity to play the courses at the Orchid and I think that you will enjoy them very much. Joel
