Date: Sep 17 1999 From: Stephanie To: Penny Pincher Subject: Effect of the Euro on Travel What effect is the Euro having on travel?
Stephanie, The Euro has made it easier for those traveling to France, Germany, Spain, and the other eight EEU countries to track their expenses through one conversion rate if they are using their credit card. (The Euro is NOT available for cash transactions at this time.) Further, the Euro is currently trading at a discount comparable to the rate at which it was introduced at the beginning of this year. This means that you will receive about a 10% savings over the rates you might have paid previously. It translates into paying a few less francs for dinner in Paris. Overall, your savings may not be significant, but it's more cost-effective to travel now, before the Euro trades at a premium again.
Happy trails,
