Date: April 25, 2000 From: Cindy To: Penny Pincher Subject: Travel First Class? Dear Joel, My husband and I will be traveling to Alaska later this year. My husband really doesn't like flying so I was hoping to distract him by going first class. Unfortunately we can't afford first class. I've heard that you can sometimes get upgraded to first class. How can I do this? Cindy
Hi Cindy, Yes, the comfort and pleasures of first class certainly will ease your husband trepidation towards flying. If you do not have any miles to use for an upgrade from your credit cards, or an existing frequent flyer program, I suggest that you consider purchasing upgrade coupons from an airline. This will allow you to fly with your coach ticket and upgrade for a few dollars to first class. For example, Alaska Air has an excellent program where you can purchase upgrades on coach tickets starting as low as $40.00.
