Date: Sep 17 1999 From: Margaret To: Penny Pincher Subject: Mini Vacations Recently I heard that a lot of people are taking mini vacations. What is your take on that?
Margaret, I believe that mini vacations are a great way to travel in luxury while minimizing costs. My wife and I often opt for a shorter, luxurious trip instead of a longer, not as luxurious trip. When your trips are shorter in duration, you will find it easier to get a hotel and car rental upgrade. This is because travel companies would rather offer an upgrade to someone on a shorter visit, freeing up the room or car sooner so that they can try to sell it at the full rate. It is easier to give away the ocean front room for three days than it would be to give it away for two weeks. Moreover, many of the travelers I speak with tell me that they find it easier to take off work for a shorter period of time rather than an extended one.
Bon voyage!
