Subject: Too old to share

Dear Joel,

I'm attending a conference for work at the end of the month. My employer has asked that attendees share hotel rooms. I do not want to bunk up. I like my privacy, but can't figure out how to afford it. I can book my own room but have to pay the difference. I'll be staying at a Marriott hotel. Any suggestions on how I can get my room for less? Or at a minimum a free upgrade to a better room with more space? Please help,

Deb

Hi Deb,

This is a problem for many who travel for a company conference. Unfortunately, many companies have strict policy regarding room sharing when their employees attend conferences. However, if you have a medical reason for your own room your company is obligated to provide you with a single room at no-additional cost. However, most employers do require a doctor's note to support the medical claim. Alternatively, you can ask the person who is in charge of booking the rooms if any singles rooms will be available. Often conference groups will have odd numbers and as a result some individuals luck out with their own rooms.

Good luck,
Joel
