Date: April 14, 2000 From: Marvin Isaacson To: Penny Pincher Subject: Trading Airline Miles Dear Joel, I am trying to get to Roatan for a diving trip with my son. I have accumulated a lot of Delta miles, and a few American miles. Delta does not fly there or to any of the close Central American cities. Is there a website for people willing to trade mileage?
Dear Marvin, There very well could be a website that specializes in this. However, I cannot recommend that you trade, barter, or sell your miles. This is explicitly against the rules of frequent flyer programs and the penalty could result in the airline closing your account and taking away all of your miles. I might suggest that you see if Delta has a code share flight into a city that is near Roatan. Recently, Delta has opened up many new routes into Central and South America. You might be able to get a flight to a nearby major city like San Jose, San Salvador or Panama City and then take a short flight into Roatan. Usually these flights are fairly inexpensive.
Have a fun trip,
