Subject: Lifetime Membership at WorldClubs - A Good Idea?

Hi Joel,

I have been a NorthWest WorldClubs member for a number of years, and am trying to decide whether or not to pop for a lifetime membership. They are changing their fee structure and I can still renew under Domestic membership before July 1, and be grandfathered into the expanded, juicier, International Program. I hope I've got 30 years of active travel ahead of me, but am a little hesitant about the other risks of making this investment, including the long term future of NWA. Or, with the growing alliance partner world (CO, KLM, Alitalia) is there somewhat of a safeguard to a lifetime member?

Your insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

Lori

Hi Lori,

This is a great question. Based on the cost of a lifetime membership of $2575 (purchasing before 6-30-00), your annual cost if you plan to fly for 30 years, will be $85.00 per year. That is a great deal. Moreover, you will be in a great position to use the L-Principle. That is Loyalty + Leverage = Luxury. If you are ever in need of special services, like getting that last first class upgrade, you can simply state that you are a lifetime flyer with NorthWest and that you would appreciate anything that they can do for you. Remember, the airlines are reliant on their loyal customers, and purchasing this membership is a great display of your commitment to fly NorthWest.

I think that code-shares and partnerships are going to become more frequent and common in the airline industry. Therefore, your membership will be worth even more since you will be able to use it at more and more places.

Happy travels,
Joel
