Travelers' Tales Turkey
True Stories
Edited by James Villers Jr.
Including stories by Robert D. Kaplan, Mary Lee
Settle, Tim Cahill, Stephen Kinzer, Stephanie Elizondo Griest, John
Flinn and many more
Quite literally the bridge between Europe and Asia, Turkey is a
country with an unusually rich history and a recently increased
relevance to today's world. Travelers' Tales Turkey is a new collection
of travel stories that shed light on this compelling and somewhat
mysterious region. According to the Turkish Tourist Office, the number
of visitors to Turkey has doubled since 1995 to more than twelve million
in 2001, and this number is expected to grow. In an era of heightened
interest in all things Muslim, Turkey offers a window into Islam as it
meets Christianity and into traditional culture as it meets contemporary
change. As a destination, Turkey appeals to the full spectrum of
travelers, from adventurous to luxury seeking, and the stories in this
new collection speaks to everyone interested in this dramatic land.
In Travelers' Tales Turkey readers will:
- Join Tim Cahill on a quest for Caspian tigers in the hills of
southeastern Turkey
- Discover the nomadic origins of the Turkish people with Robert D.
Kaplan
